History & Staff

We have years of experience caring for families, from all walks of life. Each family comes to us because they know we are leaders in our profession, dedicated to excellence in service, and have the highest integrity.

Our History

Carl J. Miller and Carl J. Miller III of Seymour became owners of Miller-Ward Funeral Home in 1968. It had been founded in 1842 by W.L. Ward. Carl J. Miller III is married to the former Patricia Sullivan. They are the parents of Carl J. Miller IV and Kurt Miller. The Miller family credo, “Commitment to the Community through Service” is exemplified by their belief that every family they serve will receive a dignified funeral regardless of financial status. They enjoy good relationships with clergy of all denominations.

As an active participant of the community, Carl J. Miller III has been a past president and current member of the Seymour-Oxford Rotary Club. He is currently corporator of the Seymour-Oxford  Nusery and Childcare Association and a past board member. Mr. Miller is also a member of the National Hospice Organization. A past member of the Catholic Family Services Board of Directors and its Board of Trustees, he is currently an usher and lector at the Church of Good Shepard of Seymour and past President of the Men’s Club.

He is also a member of the State and National Funeral Directors Association. He supports various veterans, civic, religious and community projects.
