James R. Potter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

James R. Potter, age 88, of Seymour, the beloved husband of 61 years of Mary-Etta Burns Potter, entered into eternal rest peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, June 25, 2022 at Pomperaug Woods in Southbury. He was born in Great Barrington, MA on June 23, 1934, loving son of the late Laurence E. and Elizabeth Bergin Potter, Sr. Jim was a graduate of Derby High School and Quinnipiac College, was a long time resident of Seymour and a communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd. He was a retired Plant Manager for Bussmann in Bristol and was the former owner of Jim-Bob Sports Bar of Seymour who also proudly served his country in the United States Army. Jim was an avid sports fan and big supporter of the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Athletics. He enjoyed golfing, working in his yard, traveling and was a long time active member of the Russian American Club of Seymour. Jim was the former President of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, the former President of CBIA, the former President of APICS and a board member for Bristol Hospital and St. Francis Hospital. He was also very active with the United Way and Big Brothers/Big Sisters for many years. Most of all, Jim loved to spend time with his family and many friends. He will be sadly missed by all, but will remain forever in our hearts. His loving family, in addition to his beloved wife Mary-Etta includes his two daughters Judith Lee (Mark) and Linda Potter Cook, his two sons James Potter (Robert) and Daniel Potter (Cate Bell), his brother in law Frank Longo, his two sisters in law Doris Burns and Irene Burns, his dear friends William and Margaret Duggan, his four cherished grandchildren D. Patrick Potter, Sean Potter, Lucy Lee and Krista Lee and many loving nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his brother Laurence Potter and his sister Elizabeth Longo. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Jim's life will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Nicholas Parish, Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road in Seymour. Interment, with full military honors accorded, will follow in the family plot at St. Augustine Cemetery in Seymour. Visitation for friends and relatives will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank St. (RT 67, across from Klarides Village) in Seymour.
