Donald Lesnick

November 5, 1934 - May 27, 2011

Donald Anthony Lesnick, past Chief of the Seymour Fire Department, age 76, of Seymour and Pompano Beach, FL, the beloved husband of 53 years of Katherine A. Wheeler Lesnick, entered into eternal rest at his home on Friday, May 27, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Derby on November 5, 1934, beloved son of the late Sandor and Charlotte Prydun Weisz. Don was a devout communicant of the Church of the Good Shepherd and former head usher of the church and a devout communicant of St. Gabriel Church of Pompano Beach, FL where he was a devoted usher. He was a retired Operating Engineer of Local 478 of Hamden, who had work previously for many area construction companies. Don also drove trucks across the country for many years. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a member of the David S. Miles Post 174 American Legion of Oxford. Don was past Captain of the Great Hill Hose Company and was past Chief of the Seymour Fire Department. He was a volunteer and social member of the Devon Hose Company, social member at the Fountain Hose Co. of Ansonia and a social member of the White Hills Fire Co. of Shelton. Don was a member of the Valley and New Haven Fire Chiefs Association and was also a member of the County Fire Chiefs Association, the Connecticut State Fire Chiefs Association and the Connecticut Irregulars Association. He was an avid fisherman, was a charter member of the Milford Fisherman Association, enjoyed bowling and played on the Great Hill Hose Company Softball team. His loving family in addition to his loving wife Kay includes his devoted son David J. Lesnick of Seymour, his loving daughter Kathryn Grabowski and her husband Walter of Seymour, his caring sister Sandra Hedges and her husband Dean of Boynton Beach, FL, his cherished grandchildren Corissa Benn and her husband Michael, Jordan Grabowski, Luke Grabowski, Camryn Grabowski and Kyle Lesnick, his cherished great grandson Carter Benn and several loving nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial in Celebration of Don’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Mountain Road, Seymour with the Rev. Edward S. Jaksina, officiating. Military Honors will be accorded following the Mass. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends and relatives may call at the Miller-Ward Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street (RT. 67, across from Klarides Village) Seymour on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Members of the David S. Miles Post 174 American Legion of Oxford will conduct a service at the funeral home at 7:00 pm. Members of the Great Hill Hose Company and other area fire department companies will honor Don through out the services. Expressions of sympathy in Don’s memory may be made to The Great Hill Hose Company Scholarship Fund, 140 Botsford Road, Seymour, CT 06483.
